Should I get winter tires or all-season tires?
Winter is here, and depending where you’re from, that can mean some slippery conditions on the road. Luckily, we don’t have too much to worry about in terms of snow and ice here in North Carolina. That being said, some drivers may prefer to change their tires as the seasons change. Below, we’ll discuss some of the advantages of both winter tires and all-season tires to help you decide if you need one or the other.
When to get winter tires
Winter tires are best utilized by people who live in climates that see more snow and ice during the cold months. The deeper tread and thicker build of the winter tires makes them ideal in more inclement weather. However, they should only be used in winter because they jeopardize fuel efficiency and will wear down faster than conventional tires. Winter tires are generally not needed in our area.
When to get all-season tires
All-season tires are more versatile than winter tires. As the name suggests, they can be used all four seasons of the year without concern of excess wear and tear. While they won’t provide as great traction in inclement weather, you won’t need to swap them out for conventional tires every year. If you’re concerned about some moisture on the ground as it continues to get colder out, it may not be a bad idea to invest in some all-season tires.
